Networking globally for justice

2015_10_31_Editorial_Photo1Drawing on the experiences of the four GIANs – migration, governance of natural and mineral resources, ecology, and right to education – the SJES is convening an international meeting entitled Networking for Justice from 16 to 20 November 2015 in Loyola, Spain that will bring together the GIAN core groups and other international networks of the Society such as representatives from Xavier Network  with its Jesuit Missions and other development NGOs, International Federation of Fe y Alegría, and the Social Justice Delegates of all Apostolic Conferences of the Society of Jesus.

Fr. Patxi Alvarez SJ visits Jesuit Social Action Teams in East India

patxi-visit-assamFr. Patxi Alvarez SJ, Secretary, Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat, Rome, was in India for a fortnight and visited a number of Jesuit missions especially in East India. His presence at Tarumitra for the meeting of Jesuit Province Social Action Coordinators did enrich the deliberations and energized the Jesuits to explore and engage in new and effective methods of social action.

Ignatian Advocacy Network

ignatian_advocacy_networkFrom the last Congregation, and accompanied by the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat, several international networks for Ignatian advocacy have begun to develop in several areas: Ecology, Peace and Human Rights, Right to quality education, Governance of natural and mineral resources, Migrants and displaced people.These networks have invited institutions from all the Conferences in the Society to respond in an articulated way in the five areas above mentioned.Though many of these institutions belong to the social apostolate, they wish to collaborate with apostolic works from other sectors and offer, together with them, a more holistic response to the above challenges of our common mission.
