Saint Louis University’s Facilities Management department (FM) has switched all fluorescent lighting ballast to electronic ballast.SLU now uses digital electronic thermostats instead of mercury containing thermostats and rechargeable batteries whenever possible.

Saint Louis University Distribution Services tracks the amount of scrap metal an d used furniture it keeps out of the landfills. The total pounds or tonnage of diverted material is submitted quarterly in order to assess the level of achievement and areas for improvement (Scroll down for the quarterly waste diversion breakdown). Facilities Services is always looking for ways to reuse items instead of discarding them, whether during student move-in/move-out periods or building renovation and interior upgrades.
SLU competes in Recyclemania every February and March, hosts an annual E-Waste Drive every spring semester, and recently received 1,548 recycling bins as a gift from the Alcoa Foundation to increase recycling efforts on SLU’s campus!
