pwg_broIn Asia Pacific when the typhoons come across the ocean, life is anything but passive. How we learn and what we learn in order to secure human life and sustainability of our environment is determining our future. Three years ago, Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) committed to seeking reconciliation with creation. Beginning with an environmental way of proceeding that stems from gratitude, we have sought to learn, network and engage with greater care for the world God created.

Exploring possibilities to collaborate and network for disaster risk reduction

2014_05_15_Editorial_photo-e1402448557966In a recent consultation to explore possibilities for collaboration and networking on disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts, organized as a colloquium of the Society of Jesus Social Apostolate (SJSA), the reports from the various Jesuit institutions in the Philippine Province show a tremendous and impressive array of responses that allow us get together, act and collaborate more broadly within and outside Jesuit institutions, and move beyond the traditional social apostolate.

Collaborative response in disaster risk reduction

2014_01_15_Editorial_Photo1-300x300As we enter the next phases of post-disaster response in relation to typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), we are called to ask ourselves what is the commitment and the quality of such commitment as we explore possible collaboration and contributions of Jesuit institutions in post-typhoon rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. The commitment may occur with key government officials who have responsibility for this task, with multilateral financing and development institutions, with civil society groups of professionals and from the private sector.
