Loyola University Chicago Climate Change Conference Focuses on Public Health Issues

Loyola University Chicago hosted its fifth annual climate change conference in March, bringing together students, professors, experts from Jesuit universities and partners from across the United States, Canada and the world. “Climate Change and Human Health: 21st Century Challenges” examined how we must continue to work together to address the global challenge of climate change.

Ecojesuit gathers 30 Jesuits and partners in Bonn, Germany from 6 to 17 November to actively participate, join, engage with, and learn from a global process that is trying to sustain with the nations of the world the commitments of the Paris Agreement, the first global pact to respond to global warming.

This global process is the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP23 which is the 23rd annual UN climate change conference, a round of negotiations that takes place between nations of the world.  The presidency of COP23 is the state of Fiji, but the summit will take place in Bonn. The focus of discussions are the small island states and to advance the aims and ambitions of the Paris Agreement.

US Jesuit universities continue commitment to climate change action

Beginning with gratitude and reflecting on the letter of Father General Adolfo Nicolás in preparation for the 36th General Congregation, the Reconciling with Creation Reflection workshop recently held at the Culture and Ecology Center in Bendum, Bukidnon, Philippines renewed life and mission for 35 participants from 10 member countries of the Jesuit Conference Asia Pacific (JCAP), giving depth to ecological action.

2016_04_30_Editorial_Photo1Earth Day, celebrated 22 April, is the annual event which brings together millions of people from around the globe to express support for environmental protection.  Earth Day 2016 marks the 46th anniversary of the first Earth Day which is often credited as playing a fundamental role in launching the modern environmental movement.

More recently, the concept has been expanded to become International Mother Earth Day, based on the simple yet profound recognition of the interconnectedness between all species on Earth and with the Earth itself, and the need for humanity to live in greater harmony with the natural environment.
