Ploughs, tractors, chemical fertilizers, commercial herbicides were once all part of Desmarais’ gospel of modern agriculture. But no more. The Canadian Jesuit now promotes organic, ecologically sustainable, no-till farming for small scale farmers.

Jesuit Universities Invited to Deepen Commitment to Social Justice in New Document from Jesuit Curia in Rome

Screen-Shot-2014-10-21-at-4.05.29-PM-210x300The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat of the Jesuit Curia in Rome has released a new document entitled, Promotion of Justice in the Universities of the Society.  The document, that includes an introductory letter written by Fr. Michael Garanzini, S.J., secretary of the Society for higher education and president of Loyola University Chicago, invites readers to reflect upon the rich background and understanding of justice and its role in the Jesuit university.  According to the Secretariat’s office, the text is intended to help Jesuit universities to further deepen their commitment to working for justice.
