This Climate Action Plan (CAP) is intended to guide Gonzaga in furthering its commitment to sustainability and to addressing climate change. We envision an appropriate and thorough integration of ecological stewardship and sustainability at all levels of University life.
In 2012, WSRA named Gonzaga higher education recycler of the year because of our commitment to recycling. The 25-30% reduction of garbage by “recycling, composting, and innovating waste reduction policies” was a major factor in receiving this reward.
Currently Sodexo and Plant Services are working to divert food and yard waste. Sodexo has reduced their waste from 3 garbage pick-ups to 2 garbage pick-ups per week. They hope in the coming year that they can curb their waste to only 1 garbage pick-up. The reduction in waste has come with an increase in composting.
