The Governance of Natural and Mineral Resources (GNMR) Network is one of five Global Ignatian Advocacy Networks established following General Congregation 35 in 2008, when a new emphasis was placed on the reality that the Society of Jesus is ‘one body with a universal mission’. (The other Networks are Peace and Human Rights, Education for all, Migration, and Ecology). All Conferences and Provinces were asked to commit to the five priorities.
The purpose of the GNMR Network is to ensure that issues of equity and sustainability are addressed in the governance of natural resources. The GNMR Network supports and advocates on behalf of local communities affected by mining activities, and lobbies on human rights issues where appropriate.
