Two years ago this March, we installed in our office of the Ecology Program of Jesuit Service Cambodia in Phnom Penh, a solar power system to provide for the electrical requirements of the entire office. With only 3 laptops, 1 printer, 3 fans, a couple of lights for working at night, and the periodic charging of phones and other devices, it isn’t a very big office.
NJSI handed over another women activity center “Kunta Besi Satsang Unit Woman Hall” to the beneficiaries of Kunta Besi, Kavre on 15th April 2018 in the presence of local well-wishers and government representatives. The facilitators emphasized on the need for unity and team work as this center remains as a sign of unity and common home for all to make use of it.
A group of Wheeling Jesuit students traveled to Kermit, WV for an immersion trip to chop wood for the Big Laurel Learning Center. This trip provided firewood for everyone that lives in the mountain area for the winter to keep their homes warm. Since the only way for those individuals to heat their buildings and homes is by wood fire, the students spent five days chopping wood and delivering it to various places on the mountain.
Xavier University organized an inter-university Ecological Reflection to recall and reflect on the generosity of the environment and to help translate our gratitude into concrete actions and interventions that will help sustain our environment. During the process, we were asked to share our individual refection on re-establishing relationship with nature.
