The following video address of Fr Jorge Humberto Peláez SJ, Rector of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia on the University’s Colombia Amazon Program was shared during the Ecojesuit meeting on 1 August with the University’s key officials and faculty and with the Conferencia de Provinciales Jesuitas en América Latina y El Caribe (CPAL) led by Fr Roberto Jaramillo SJ. This is an important and strategic development in the University’s integral response to the call for action on the Amazonia, a region of global significance as a “lung of the planet” and whose resources and indigenous communities face massive threats of loss and displacement from agri-business pressures.

Pontificia Universidad Javeriana’s Colombian Amazon Program: Building an open university in constant dialogue with national reality
Selected residents of San Roque Ecovillage, Barangay Cagaut, Salcedo, Eastern Samar completed an Organic Farming and Solid Waste Management Training on July 11-12, organized by ESSC in coordination with the local government of Salcedo. The general objective of the training was to equip community members with knowledge and skills they could use to develop an action plan for communal organic farming and solid waste management.
The Emmaus Center is situated on a two-acre lot in Mae Tang District, Chiang Mai, and is focussed on organic farming. The main office building, Emmaus House, was completed two months ago, on May 29, and by next month, Kep hopes to have the house fully furnished and operational. There are plans to engage in handicraft and carpentry work, especially making small furniture and utensils that can be used in the house and farm. The team hopes to include carpentry in its skills training programme in the future.
Religious and lay people from six countries – Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Ghana, Brazil and Spain – have ended the fourth theoretical-practical Week of Ecological Conversion held in INEA, Valladolid. This proposal born in the environment of the INEA’s Organic Gardens and it is growing with the call of Pope Francis Laudato Si’. The encyclical continues appealing religious and lay people.
Este año, el octavo trueque reunio a más de 300 personas, diferentes actores Sociales (indigenas, afrodescendientes y ampesinos). Asimismo a instituciones entidades privadas Públicas y que con trabajan procesos de agroecología en la region. Mientras se llevaba a cabo el Proceso del trueque en las diferentes mesas, de Manera simultánea se hizo un compartir que aportaron las Veredas de los diferentes municipios que hicieron presencia, permitiendo Así Degustar a los asistentes variedad de recetas producidas por los Mismos campesinos con productos agroecológicos.
Agroecology is an encompassing concept related to the environmental, socio-cultural, economic and political spheres of our society. It involves a way of producing, distributing and consuming food as well as developing food policies that is mindful of concepts like equality, solidarity, democracy, empowerment and ecology. The launch of this new project today in Rome is timely: it takes place just after the UN Commission on the Status of Women being focused on rural women this year.
