Pressão pró-desmatamento e barganhas políticas comprometem metas brasileiras de emissão de gás carbônico. Entrevista especial com Raoni Rajão

Apesar de a política brasileira de combate ao desmatamento ter sido aprimorada nos últimos anos, um estudo recente realizado por pesquisadores da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais – UFMG e da Universidade de Brasília – UnB demonstra que as barganhas concedidas pelo Estado brasileiro até 2016 podem reverter os índices de desmatamento no país e comprometer a meta brasileira de redução das emissões de gás carbônico assumidas no Acordo de Paris.

ADNU Joins Arbor Day Celebration

The Naga City local government unit invited the Ateneo de Naga University to participate in the Naga City Arbor Day Celebration. ADNU, in its advocacy for caring for our common home, answered the call and participated in the Naga City Arbor Day celebration by planting trees in the designated reforestation area in the buffer zone of Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP) in Brgy. Panicuason, Naga City in the morning of 16 June 2018. Students, faculty and staff volunteers answered the invitation of the Naga City LGU and joined the activity of planting more than 5,000 seedlings in the target area along with other volunteers.

The Integral Agroecological Project of INEA, in the Congress of Deputies

The INEA Foundation has developed in recent years the Integral Agroecological Project that has become an example of agroecological experience before deputies and senators this Friday. During the Conference  ‘Expand Agroecology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals‘, at the seat of the Congress of Deputies, the professor of INEA Irene Guerrero has exposed the keys that make it one of the nine experiences selected by the Spanish Society of Ecological Agriculture and Agroecology (SEAE) to share for its relevance, its achievements and challenges. 

Madagascar – Reforestation and Care of Creation gives Future to a Nation

“Plant trees and support care of Creation to give Madagascar a future”. This is the aim of the project of reforestation and training for the sustainable economy carried out in Ikalamavony and Solila by the diocese of Fianarantsoa, along with “Fe y Alegría“, an organization born in the fifties of the century to promote education, and “Magis“, an NGO of the Italian Jesuits.

Mining and Ecocide Law

There is a growing movement and advocacy for the introduction of ecocide law at both a domestic and international level. The common definition of ecocide is the destruction of large areas of the natural environment as a consequence of human activity.  Some obvious examples of ecocide are the Niger Delta, Alberta Tar Sands and the pollution caused by Chevron/Texaco in Amazonian jungle in Ecuador.
