Campus Sustainability Day is an annual event in October in which colleges and universities celebrate sustainability initiatives and projects on their campus.  At SCU, we showcase ways in which students, faculty, and staff can get involved on or off campus & support local vendors, businesses, and causes that are committed to environmental stewardship, education, and service.

Children can plant trees too!

IMG_2652-800x600During the months of January and February, Ms. Sona Yom and  the kindergarten teachers at both schools, Dey Lo and Phnom Bak, are keen that all the children learn how to plant trees and vegetables.   The children are eager planters. Many families can create small plots close to their houses.  Even though the area here is poor, the earth is fertile and rich in nutrients for trees and plants.  However during the dry season, it is difficult to find water unless one has prepared ponds from the previous year’s rainy season.

Sustainability

solarPanels“Each green initiative on our campus diverts resources from unsustainable projects to renewable, cost effective ones. Beyond the savings and the environmental benefits, these initiatives also create learning opportunities and fulfill the Jesuit ideal to be stewards of God’s creation.” – President Eugene J. Cornacchia

Move-Out Waste Diversion

Campisi-360x480SCU understand that Finals Week can be stressful and hectic. We have implemented programs to provide easy options for responsible recycling and donations.

In the last five years, students have diverted over 25 tons of material during the move-out process. Our individual actions to sort our stuff during move-out not only help to reduce our impact on the environment, but also help SCU to save money in landfill fees! Scroll through the categories below and check out the maps of your residence hall (alphabetically) to learn what to do with all your stuff as you pack up for the summer.
